Frequently Asked Questions
If I experience a leak, will my Freewills feel dry?
Yes.
Freewill guards are held in place by our Quick-Dry mesh pouch. The Quick-Dry mesh passes liquid into the guard and dries itself virtually immediately, so you feel just as dry as you do wearing drugstore pads.
How much do Freewill guards hold?
According to independent testing using industry-standard methods, Freewill guards hold 605 grams of water, which is equivalent to 605mL. This is 6% more than Amazon Basics guards, 14% more than Walgreens Certainty guards, and 18% more than Depend Guards.
However, we prefer to use real-world benchmarks, rather than laboratory statistics, to help you choose the right product for you. Take our 30-second Product Finder Quiz. It uses everyday examples to help you figure out whether Freewill underwear & guards or our other main product Wildhawk underwear have the right amount of absorption for you.
Important note: Freewill guards are not designed to hold full bladder voids. If you are experiencing full voids, we recommend using disposable full briefs or diapers.
Why is the Freewill underwear & guards system better than alternatives?
Why better than other washable incontinence underwear brands:
- It lets you feel dry immediately
- It holds more liquid (see prior question)
- It’s a better garment overall - ultra-luxurious fabrics, smooth waistband, legs that don’t ride up
Why better than drugstore pads:
- It eliminates the hassle - no need to pull down your underwear to change them, no clumsy, unreliable adhesive
- It’s more comfortable - no scratchy edges, no risk of adhesive sticking to you, ultra-luxurious body fabrics
- It holds more liquid than the most well-known brands - 18% more than Depend, 6% more than Amazon Basics
How do I use Freewill underwear and guards?
When you insert the guard, here are some simple suggestions to ensure you get maximum protection and comfort:
- Put the guard in with the narrow end pointed down.
- Try to keep the guard spread out as you insert it.
- Push the guard all the way to the rear seam of the underwear.
We recommend changing the guard before it contains more than 6 ounces (about 180mL) of liquid. 6 ounces is roughly half a soda can. The guard can technically hold more than that, but the risk of a leak increases the more full it is. And with a guard this easy to change, there’s no reason to cut it close!
Can I use another brand’s guards/pads with Freewill underwear?
We strongly recommend against doing this. The Freewill Quick-Dry mesh pouch is specifically shaped to hold Freewill guards. If you try to use another brand’s guards with the pouch, you will likely experience chafing or unreliable recoverage.
Can I use Freewill guards with another type of underwear?
We also strongly recommend against doing this. Freewill guards do not have adhesive. They are designed to be held in place by a pouch. If you insert Freewill guards into underwear that does not have a pouch, they will likely move around, giving you insufficient protection.
Can I try before I buy?
Under our First Pair Money-back Guarantee, if you’re not happy with your purchase, you can get a refund on your first pair of Freewill underwear and your first 30-pack of Freewill guards. No questions asked, no need to return them to us.
How big are the guards? Are they one-size fits all?
Freewill guards are 11.5 inches long and 5.5 inches wide at their widest point. They are sized to fit most body types.
The Quick-Dry mesh pouch is designed so that all sizes of Freewill underwear hold the guards snugly no matter what size the underwear is.
Will Freewill guards irritate my skin? Do they have harmful chemicals?
Freewill guards are certified by professional dermatologist testing to be hypoallergenic and free from skin irritants.
They are manufactured without:
- Natural rubber latex
- PFAs
- Parabens
- Chlorine bleaching
- Fragrances
- Lotion
How should I dispose of the guards?
The guards should be disposed of in the trash. They are not recyclable.
What are the washing instructions for the underwear?
They can be washed in a washing machine and machine dried. For best performance, wash them in cool/cold water and dry them with low heat.
Are they discreet?
Freewill underwear and guards are shipped in unmarked packaging. The Freewill pouch is designed to look just like a horizontal fly, so it is quite discreet.
What fabrics are the underwear made of?
The body fabrics are 90% micro modal, 10% elastane.
The mesh pouch is 80% polyester, 20% elastane.
Do they smell?
Both Freewill underwear and Freewill guards have built-in odor-blocking technology.
Freewill underwear uses an environmentally friendly HeiQ Fresh™ treatment to vastly decrease odors.
Freewill guards have OdorSecure technology, which has been scientifically proven to reduce ammonium (the chemical that causes the distinctive “pee smell”) concentration by 66%.
