What are the big do’s and don’ts when using Freewill underwear & guards?

To get the most out of your Freewill underwear and guards, make sure you use them the right way. While our products are designed to be easy to use without much instruction, following a few key guidelines will ensure you experience the level of comfort, protection, and confidence that you expect from them. Whether you're new to the system or want to double-check your technique, these simple tips will help you get it right every time.

Do:

  • Put the guard in narrow end down. The lower half of the guard is very carefully shaped to give you maximum coverage between your legs, without any bunchiness or lumpiness.
  • Try to keep the guard spread out as you insert it. Don’t let it get too narrow/pointy. Again, this ensures that you get the full benefit of the guard’s custom shape.
  • Push the guard all the way to the rear seam of the underwear. This ensures that you have full protection in any position - standing, sitting, and lying. And it provides that extra degree of security that the guard won’t move around.

  • Change the guard before it contains more than 6 ounces (about 180mL) of liquid. 6 ounces is roughly half a soda can. The guard can technically hold more than that, but the risk of a leak increases the more full it is. And with a guard this easy to change, there’s no reason to cut it close!

Don’t:

  • Use other brands’ guards with Freewill underwear. Needless to say, it defeats the whole purpose! Freewill underwear and guards are carefully custom-shaped to work perfectly with each other. (Trust us, it took a LOT of trial and error to get the fit just right.) Other brands’ guards will either not give you the coverage you need (if they’re too small) or they’ll be lumpy and bunchy between your legs (if they’re too big). If you insert another brand's guard with its peel paper still attached, you'll create an unwanted side effect – that dreaded crinkly noise will be annoying you all day long. Who wants that!
  • Wash and/or dry the underwear on high heat. High heat will slightly diminish the wicking performance of the mesh and cause the underwear to lose that perfect level of stretchiness that makes the fit so luxurious. Lower temperatures will mean it takes a little longer to dry, but it’s worth it to keep the like-it’s-not-there fit.

Following these do’s/don’ts will help you get the most out of your Freewill underwear/guards and experience the level of comfort and confidence they’re designed to provide.
